Mr. Vitalis Omolo Awuor - Head, Information Sciences

Mr. Awuor joined the civil service in 1983 as a Hydrologist in the then Ministry of Water Development, soon after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Nairobi. He subsequently obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Engineering Hydrology at the Institute of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IHE) Delft, the Netherlands; and a Master of Science degree in Water Resources Engineering at University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

While in the Ministry of Water Development, he was involved in a number of water resources related studies,  among which were – the Tana River Morpology Studies and the Water Resources Assessment Project that were undertaken between 1984 and 1988.

Mr. Awuor crossed over as a Research Officer I, in the Department of Research Development of the newly created Ministry of Research, Technical Training and Technology in 1988. While there, he was seconded to the Kenya National Academy of Sciences (KNAS) as the Administrator.

In 1995, Mr. Awuor joined the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) where he has since risen through the ranks to be a Chief Science Secretary responsible for the development and implementation of strategies for the development of Information and Communication Sciences.Over the years, Mr Awuor has undertaken projects from which he has prepared, submitted reports and presented papers in the areas of water resources, climate change and information sciences.
