Signing of an Agreement on African Resources and environment Management satellite Constellation (ARMC)

The Algerian Space Agency organized the 3rd African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development from 7th to 9th December 2009 in Algiers, Algeria.

The main objective of the conference was to enhance collaboration between Governments of Algeria, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa on matters of space science.

The main objective of the Initiative is to establish Africa satellite constellation for monitoring African resources and environment. The Initiative will design, construct, and launch a set of satellites for Africa because most of the current satellites do not collect earth observation data on Africa on a continuous basis.

The data collected will find application in various fields including food security, early warning and disaster management. The Agreement was signed by the four countries on 7th December, 2009.

The CEO now Chair of AFRA-PMC

Prof. Shaukat A. Abdulrazak was recently appointed chairman of the African Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA) Program Management Committee (AFRA-PMC). As chairman, Prof. Abdulrazak made a presentation during the Regional Workshop for National Liason Officers and AFRA National Coordinators on enhancing the efficiency and the effectiveness of the Technical Cooperation Programme Management, 10-14 January 2010, Sharm El Sheik, Egypt. to sensitize participants on key issues concerning the management of the AFRA Programme with emphasis on the ownership at the national level to strengthen the Operational Management of the Programme at the project level. AFRA seeks to maximize the use of the available infrastructure and expertise in Africa and assists countries to move towards regional self-sufficiency using peaceful applications of nuclear techniques through technical cooperation among developing countries (TCDCs).

 

THE SECRETARY AMONG THE WHO’S WHO IN THE WORLD

Prof. Shaukat A. Abdulrazak has been included as a subject of biographical record in the Who’s Who in the World, 27th Edition 2010, a Publication by Marquis Publication board, USA. The inclusion is limited to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their own field of endeavour and who have thereby contributed significantly to the betterment of contemporary society.
